CalPoly 2020 BFA Showcase Website Design
Generally, CalPoly BFA Showcases are in-person event. However, due to the complications of COVID-19, our senior showcase had to be hosted virtually. This project was an ongoing 1 month project created by me and my peers — Alaina Dannecker and Niamh Horn. My contributions to this project included ideation, usability testing, client communication and coordination. Since this had never been done prior, we did not have any previous designs to base the new site on. Our goal was to develop an identity for our show site that matched the mission statement of CalPoly’s Art & Design department and that could be used again in later shows.
Art & Design Department Mission Statement:
The Department of Art and Design promotes individual vision and creative excellence. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in the creation, history, and theory of the visual arts that prepares students for professional careers and graduate studies. Art and Design emphasizes experimentation, problem solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration informed by global awareness.
Cal Poly's Art & Design Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
Process:
Because there was such a wide variety of art styles and personalities in the show, we chose a minimalistic design style that would not clash with anyone’s art. We focused on simplicity in navigation using the 3-step rule in site design with an emphasis on user experience.
